Hey guess what? It's the "How's My Driving" poll. He's also new to camp so a lot of people have yet to meet him. Hence with the not flashing this all over the OOC community.

Available on: AIM and through email. As I've said before, the IRC makes me nervous and I feel unjustified to lurk there. And when I feel that way I make myself look ridiculous and behave foolishly. I do, however, know how to work Internet Relay Chat so if summoned, I can appear, just don't expect to find me in there. If I *am* in there, I'm in "lurk" mode. I am not anti-social, though. If you want to catch me on AIM just to talk, be my guest! I tend to be invisible by day, so it's worth poking my SN to see if I'm actually there. By night I am always visible.

Timezone/Language: Eastern Standard Time. Since I am currently not working (despite my best efforts) I can be found online pretty much all day, every day. My first, and only, language is English. I can also understand a tiny bit of Latin but I somehow doubt that'll ever come up. I also don't sleep. I drink coffee at 1 am sometimes, so you can find me long into the most insane of hours. Me fluttering about until 4-4:30 in the morning is not uncommon.

The playing experience: I am in a fair number of RPGs outside this one, and they all demand some of my time, two of them I GM so of course they require my attention. This RPG will not be neglected, but I do juggle games. For the most part, I comment ninja rather than make posts of my own since my post ideas are seldom worthwhile or amusing. If I suddenly stop threading, it's because Paul has nothing more to say or because I myself have suddenly left my coveted computer for some reason. I'm game for planned RP or random spur-of-the-moment RP.

Thread Jumping: I tend to do it so everyone else should feel absolutely free to jump into Paul's threads. Unless they're locked, of course.

Crack vs Emo: My canon is silly. My character isn't. So, really, it's all good. Anything he does that's ridiculous, he'll do in all seriousness. Feel free to laugh at him. Feel free to ruin his life, too. Or sucker him into crack. Anything goes.

Goals: In life? In life I would love to study Medieval History in Edinburgh, but I think that's not what I'm being asked here. I have no goals with Paul. I came in blind and so did he. In all likelihood he will not become a huge presence in this game. But I hope that he stays in character and remains a fun person to poke at for those who do interact with him. He'll start talking to more people, eventually...

Comfort Levels: I am a rock. There aren't very many things that will squick me but if you're worried it might, then just shoot me an IM. But why would you want to do anything that off colored to a Pokemon character, anyway?

Betaing: My BA was in English so I'm always willing to do basic grammar-checks. If I know the canon, I can do voice checks as well. That said, I am terrible at writing apps myself. I can give you pointers but you'll probably want to send it on to a secondary beta afterwards.

AUs: P0rn AUs and Paul is like oil and water; they don't mix unless you remove the gas dissolved in the porn. Probably not.

Pimping: Like my canon needs to be pimped...Yeah I'm sure I'll pimp something. I've already pimped the music.

Concrit: Please. I always like to hear how I'm doing, especially with someone I've never RPed before.

One thing the game, Pokemon Diamond/Pearl has is great music. No, really. Each game had its amusing ditty but D/P actually has some very worthwhile and epic sounding tunes. And they're on Youtube! Let me share my favorites:

Contact Info: The best way to catch me is on AIM (SN in profile). I'm almost never in the IRC because the IRC makes me nervous and when I'm nervous I act like a fool, sometimes. That said, I know how to work IRC so I can make appearances in there on request.

Age: Between the ages of 12 and 17. I tend to lean towards the older end of that spectrum but Pokemon doesn't do a very good job of making the ages of its characters readily apparent. He's traveled throughout all known regions which makes him Ash's age at least. However old Ash is.
Height: 5'2"...Yes. Short.
Weight: 130 lbs is a safe bet, some of that being muscle.
Medical Info: Nothing unusual here.
Eyes: Paul's eyes are eerily dark and quite slanted. He shares his eyes with two other characters in the franchise: Don Giovanni and Silver. It is interesting to note that Paul bears a strong resemblance to Silver both in terms of his philosophy on Pokemon and in terms of his physicality. Both are acrobatic, both feel that Pokemon are important only for battles and that weak Pokemon should be thrown away, both use Murkrow as their flying type. However, Paul is polite and essentially a good person once you look past his impassive behavior towards his Pokemon. Silver is full of vitriol. In many ways, Paul is Silver's mirror as Silver backbones Pokemon G/S and is an important reoccurring character in the manga. Silver does not exist in the anime canon. However, in the manga (and it is hinted at in the games as well) Silver's infamously piercing eyes are justified. He has the same eyes as Giovanni because Giovanni is his father. There is a whole plotline that runs through Pokemon Adventures about this. Why Paul has those same eyes is unknown but it COULD be that he is the son of Giovanni in the anime. For some reason, I rather hope he isn't. It just wouldn't make a whole lot of sense. He could be the son of Cyrus, though. That theory has merit.
Hair: Paul has raggedy purple hair, seldom ever brushed
Physical traits: Paul has boyish sinew, built up from a lifetime of running, jumping and climbing.
What's Okay To Mention Around Him/Her: Anything goes. I'm sure he wouldn't like knowing he's from a franchise for "little kids" in other peoples' worlds but that is going to come up whether he likes it or not. Make him flail, I support it.
Abilities: Shares Silver's ability for being a tiny ninja. Beyond that, well, he has a personal militia of critters. But he has no psionic or magical abilities whatsoever.
Notes for the Psychics: Psychics exist in Paul's world as an apparent character class. Those who specialize in, and devote their lives to, the study of Psychic-Type Pokemon become Psychics themselves. Psychics are powerful individuals in all forms of canon. In the games you can see them levitating Pokeballs in the air with their minds, in the manga they can Psionicly fling people around and the anime has the most extreme cases: Sabrina and her ability to psychicly project her consciousness into a doll and shrink adversaries, Anabelle and her power to telecommunicate. We can only guess what Lucian is going to be capable of when he shows up, which will be soon. All that said, Paul knows what Psychics are so if anyone told him they were one, he wouldn't have any particular reason to not believe them. If a Psychic were to read his mind they would sense pride and anger and beneath that uncertainty. He has no psychic walls in his mind, he's as readable as any other "normal" human.
Can I shapeshift/bodyswap/spit at/step on/etc?: I say go for it. For the big things, like bodyswapping, I ask you contact me first but really, I'm pretty lenient. And I like torturing my characters. So!
Maim/Murder/Death: This depends on my mood, so ask me first. Paul is entirely mortal.
Hugging/Kissing/Other Non-Violent Physical Contact: I really don't know how Paul would react to a kiss, that would depend on who was doing it and how. He's not a very tactile lad so he probably won't touch most other people. Feel free to touch him, though. He can handle it.
Cooking: He can cook well enough to feed himself on the go but he's no chef. I probably wouldn't eat anything he makes.

TL;DR

The mythos was copied from another RP journal of mine. Read the rest of the essay here, if you want. The rest of the essay covers government, history and setting. I didn't feel the need to transcribe those since they have even LESS to do with CFUD.

My style of roleplaying out of Pokemon has always been a bit unorthodox, luckily Paul suits my approach rather well. Basically, he doesn't think the concept of his world is at all unusual, having grown up with it and having had nothing, until now, to contrast it with. He's a pretty serious guy but everyone should feel welcomed to poke at him.

The thing about Paul is that he has no catchphrase (at least not yet) to make a username out of. I watched the third episode of the Sinnoh Arc again, the one where Paul and Ash battle for the first time, looking for inspiration. As I watched Paul's tactics I had what one could only call a "Geek Flashback".

Robilar's Gambit is a feat from Dungeons & Dragons 3rd Edition. The Player's Handbook II describes it thusly: "Grant foes bonus on attacks and damage, but their attacks provoke attacks of opportunity." What this basically means is you let your foe make the first move, with all the bonuses that entails, but you get to move into a more advantageous position for chain attacks and critical hits. Paul's method of feeling out Ash's combat style reminded me of Robilar's Gambit (a feat I used as a Monk). I highly doubt ANYONE will see the reference there but, there it is.
